If you’ve been around Emmanuel for a couple of years or more, then you’ll know that every two years we have had a Church Weekend Away. These weekends away are a great opportunity to meet new folk, to relax together and to benefit from some meaty teaching as a church family.
Plans are now in place for the 2015 weekend away – with a twist! Please save the dates of Friday 25th to Sunday 27th September 2015 for the Emmanuel ‘Home and Away’ Weekend!
As the name suggests, rather than booking a residential weekend away, we have planned the weekend so that everyone can stay in their own home. We will have some social time on the Friday evening at ‘home’ here in Wimbledon. Saturday’s teaching and activities will be a short journey ‘away’ at the beautiful conference centre at Epsom Downs Racecourse. We’ll then have Sunday back ‘home’ at Emmanuel. Our speaker for Saturday and Sunday will be Dr Garry Williams, who runs the John Owen Centre and is an elder at Christ Church Harpenden. He will be teaching us about the doctrine of scripture – a very important issue for our generation when the authority of scripture is under attack from all sides. There will be a separate programme (and a whole heap of fun!) for children aged 0-18 years.
There will be a charge for the Saturday to cover the cost of venue hire and catering, but in comparison to a residential weekend this will be a modest amount. Full details of the programme, costs and booking arrangements will be available in Spring 2015.
The best thing about having a ‘Home and Away’ Weekend is that there is almost no restriction on numbers, so for the first time in many years we can do something as a church family that is genuinely open to the whole, huge crowd of us. So, from the youngest to the oldest at Emmanuel, we do hope that you will put the date in your diary and plan to join us for our Home and Away Weekend 2015!
